Repairing Teeth With Inlays And Onlays

Dental Restorations at AH Smiles in Arlington Heights ILWe offer a host of restorative treatment designed to address decay, damage, and infections. We want to restore your tooth to full function and health, as well as protect your smile from further complications. In addition to crowns and fillings we also offer a restoration that can target specific areas of your tooth’s surface. Do you have questions about how we repair teeth with inlays and onlays?

How They Differ From Crowns

A dental crown fits over the entirety of the tooth’s visible portion. We use them to correct a number of problems with the tooth’s shape and health, such as infections, fractures, and severe damage. However, inlays and onlays are designed to address specific areas of the tooth, allowing more of the natural tooth structure to remain in place. Each one is custom-made from ceramic, a tough material that looks natural and boasts stain-resistant qualities. Using CEREC technology we can create and place them in a single visit.

Inlays

The inlay addresses the areas of the tooth between the cusps.

Onlays

An onlay fits over the cusps of the tooth.

When Do You Need Them?

During checkups, we carefully examine the tooth to see if there are areas of decay that may need treatment. If necessary, we will recommend a dental restoration. However, if at home you notice your tooth feels sensitive to hot or cold temperatures, or that you have a persistent toothache that doesn’t subside, then you should contact our office. These could be warning signs of decay that require a restoration. If you have any questions about inlays or onlays, or if you would like to schedule a visit, then contact our office today.
