Porcelain Veneers

A veneer is a restoration that is placed onto the front of teeth. Made from porcelain, veneers are stain-resistant, durable, and lifelike in appearance. Each one is custom-made by hand by an expert ceramist. Placement typically takes two visits: The first involves preparing the tooth and taking impressions. Once the restoration is complete, the patient returns for the second visit, in which last minute adjustments are made and the restoration is placed onto the front of the tooth using a powerful bonding agent. We can use them to:

  • Mask discoloration
  • Reshape malformed, worn down, or damaged teeth
  • Close gaps between teeth
  • Correct the appearance of minor misalignment

Teeth Whitening

We can also address teeth stains with professional teeth whitening. We actually offer two different options: in-office and at-home. In-office takes about an hour and removes stains that appear in the surface of the teeth. At-home takes a week to ten days and involves wearing a custom-made set of trays filled with a bleaching gel for a set amount of time, depending on the severity of discoloration. This one address surface stains and minor permanent discoloration, which forms below the enamel and may not respond to in-office or over-the-counter whitening systems.

Which Option Works Best for You?

That depends on the severity of your cosmetic issues. For just discoloration, typically teeth whitening is enough. However, if you have permanent stains that don’t respond to whitening systems, then placing a restoration may be the best option. Give Dr. Brent Engelberg a call at (847) 230-9703 today.
