Teeth whitening is one of the most common cosmetic treatments requested today, providing a quick, economical and painless smile makeover. Teeth whitening can boost your confidence in your appearance for that special occasion and both social and professional interaction.
Arlington Heights cosmetic dentists Dr. Jennifer Mullarkey and Dr. Brent Engelberg offer teeth whitening treatment options to suit your cosmetic needs and budget. During a consultation, Drs. Engelberg and Mullarkey will evaluate your dental health and discuss your goals to determine if a teeth whitening treatment is right for you.
While teeth whitening is effective for most patients, there are certain types of teeth staining that may not respond to treatment. Drs. Engelberg and Mullarkey offer alternative treatment options to address discolored teeth: porcelain veneers, dental crowns and tooth bonding.

Benefits of Zoom!® Whitening
The Zoom Whitening procedure was developed to be simple and painless. The active ingredient in Zoom is pH balanced hydrogen peroxide that, when activated by a special light, gently penetrates teeth to remove deep stains and discoloration.
For in-office whitening, we recommend patients start with a cleaning. Next, we prepare the mouth for the whitening procedure by isolating the lips and gums. The proprietary Zoom Whitening gel is applied to the teeth, which is activated by a specially designed light.
Teeth typically become at least six to ten shades whiter – sometimes more! A five minute fluoride treatment completes the procedure. You will be amazed with the results. In most cases, your teeth will continue to whiten in the first few days following the procedure.
Dr. Engelberg or Dr. Mullarkey may also recommend take-home trays for maintenance of your newly whitened smile, and provides them for free during the in-office whitening process!
Take Home Options
For a more gradual teeth whitening treatment in the comfort of your own home, Dr. Engelberg offers options for customized take home kits.
Dr. Engelberg offers Nite White®, Day White®, and Opalescence ® lines of at-home teeth whitening products. All three systems use a custom gel tray that is specifically designed to fit each patient’s smile to reduce irritation of the gums and ensure an even application for optimal results.
Nite White® is used overnight and Day White® can be used during the day, achieving excellent results with just two 30-minute treatments. Opalescence® has a variety of options depending on your sensitivity level and preference for time of day to wear the custom trays.
Teeth Whitening FAQs
How does professional teeth bleaching compare to over the counter options?
There are many over the counter options for teeth whitening including whiting tooth paste, whitening strips and gels. For patients who want the best results, professional treatment is still the best choice. Dr. Engelberg offers teeth whitening systems with custom fit trays to ensure even whitening of the teeth. In addition, our products are specially formulated to reduce tooth sensitivity, a common side effect of whitening.
How much does teeth whitening cost?
Teeth whitening is one of the most affordable cosmetic dentistry treatments available. The cost of your whitening treatment will depend on the type of whitening you choose and your desired outcome.
In office whitening costs an average of $500 per treatment and at home whitening can range between $250 and $500 depending on the system you choose. Refills for touch up treatment may be an additional cost. Contact our office for more specific details.
Will bleaching cause my teeth to be more sensitive?
One of the more common side effects of teeth whitening is tooth sensitivity. Dr. Engelberg carefully supervises teeth whitening treatments to ensure minimal side effects. The products we use are specially formulated to virtually eliminate sensitivity.
How long does whitening last?
The results of teeth whitening will vary based on each individual. Most patients can expect whitening to last six months to a year. Touch-up treatment every four to six months can help extend the results of your treatment. Visiting Dr. Engelberg regularly and avoiding smoking and dark foods will also help to keep your teeth white and bright.
