Frequently Asked Questions About Dermal Fillers
Question: How do dermal fillers work?
Answer: As we grow older, parts of our face will experience collagen loss, leading to deep lines and wrinkles. A dermal filler, containing hyaluronic acid, is used to fill these places and add volume. Patients then obtain a more youthful visage.
Question: What can they address?
Answer: We can use them to address nasolabial folds, as well as lines around the nose and mouth. They can also be used to replace lost volume in the cheeks, lifting the lower cheeks in the process. We administer the treatment by injecting it under the skin in these areas. In addition, we can use them to augment the lips or make them appear more even.
Question: How do they differ from Botox?
Answer: Botox is also injected just under the skin, administering a purified protein from the botulinum toxin, but is mainly used to address the wrinkles and lines around the eyes and forehead, such as crow’s feet. We can use both together to help improve facial esthetics.
Question: What other applications do these cosmetic treatments have?
Answer: We can also use Botox to relax the muscles, which helps address the strain behind TMJ disorder. Patients then enjoy a reduced severity of symptoms.
