Frequently Asked Questions About Our Dental Restorations

Question: How does a filling help my smile?

Answer: We use fillings to address tooth decay. When a cavity forms, it can continue to grow and spread, eventually leading to infection and threatening the tooth’s stability. Fortunately, we can address the decay stage by placing a composite resin, a metal-free material that can be shaded to match the tooth structure.

Question: When do you recommend a dental crown?

Answer: Should a tooth develop advanced decay, an infection, or become cracked or broken, we can place a crown. While a filling targets a specific area of the tooth, the crown covers the entire visible portion of the tooth. The restoration will be made from a lifelike and durable ceramic material.

Question: Can you make a crown in one visit?

Answer: We can! We will prepare the tooth and then take detailed digital impressions. The impressions will be used to make a 3D model of the crowns, which will we upload into a CEREC machine. The machine uses CAD/CAM technology to mill a restoration from a solid block of ceramic.

Question: When is an onlay or inlay right for my smile?

Answer: Inlays and onlays are the in-between point between a filling and crown. We make them using ceramic, but use them to target specific places on a tooth. An inlay fits the portion between the cusps on the top of the tooth, while an onlay fits over the cusps, repairing damage or decay while preserving more of the natural tooth structure.
