Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign
Question: How does smile correction help my oral health?
Answer: When your teeth are uneven, thorough brushing and flossing can be difficult, nearly impossible. Food can remain trapped between teeth and then be broken down by bacteria. The process creates plaque buildup and increases oral acidity, leading to a greater risk of tooth decay and gingivitis. The pressure misalignment places on the jaw joints can also lead to the onset of TMJ disorder and bruxism.
Question: Will clear braces make brushing and flossing easier?
Answer: Yes! Unlike metal braces, Invisalign aligners can be removed before you brush and floss. You can have a much easier time cleaning your teeth and limit the risk of cavities and gingival issues during treatment.
Question: How does the treatment process work?
Answer: We will take impressions of your smile, which an Invisalign lab uses to create a series of aligners from a clear plastic material. You will then wear a set for 20 to 23 hours a day, upgrading to the next set after about two weeks. Total treatment time depends on the extent of your misalignment (and if you’ve been wearing them properly) but on average, takes about a year.
Question: Can I also remove the aligners before meals?
Answer: Yes! Which means you don’t have to avoid certain foods as you would with metal races. You can eat as you did prior to treatment. We do recommend drinking a little water after you eat/drink something high in sugar, to help cleanse the mouth before you put your aligners back in.
