Our job as a parent begins from the moment our child is born, and we need to monitor everything, from teaching them to crawl, walk and talk.
There may be some things that you are not aware of that can cause your child dental issues later on in life. For instance, thumbsucking, bottle tooth decay and a dependency on a ‘binky,’ are actions that almost every baby likes to do. These simple habits may lead to conditions such as an overbite, underbite or crooked teeth.
- Baby Bottle Tooth Decay
- Baby bottles are great; however, the problem with a baby bottle is that we tend to fill them with drinks that are heavily concentrated with sugar and high fructose corn syrup. These ingredients can cause tooth decay and cavities in your child’s baby teeth. Even though baby teeth are temporary, they are still subject to tooth decay. Try filling your babies bottle with healthy drink and plenty of water.
- ‘Binky’ Dependency
- Most babies are given a pacifier that is often referred to as a binky; these are great for when your child is crying or does not feel safer, as for a lot of babies it brings them comfort and relaxation. However, too much ‘binky’ may cause your child to develop an overbite or underbite.
- Thumbsucking
- Very similar to ‘binky’ dependency is thumb sucking. Thumbsucking provides the same relief and comfort to a lot of babies; however, it also increases the chances of developing an overbite or underbite.
