Dental Implants: The Premier Tooth Replacement Option

Replace Missing Teeth in Arlington Heights ILDr. Brent Engelberg is happy to provide dental implants to patients who are missing one or more teeth. Dental implants are one of the greatest advancements in modern dentistry and are considered the premier tooth replacement option. They allow us the ability to restore the look, feel, and functionality of a missing tooth. When considering your tooth replacement options, remember the following things about dental implants:

Dental Implants vs. Dental Bridges

When you are presented with your tooth replacement options, the differences between dental implants and dental bridges are important to remember. While dental bridges do not require an extensive healing time as dental implants do, they will not offer you the same long-term benefits. Dental bridges rely on the external support of your surrounding teeth to hold a prosthetic tooth in place of a missing tooth. The surrounding teeth may require some enamel removal to make space for the bridge hardware. With dental implants, you do not have to worry about putting additional strain on your remaining dental structures. Instead, dental implants rely on the internal support of your own jawbone to make them function just as a natural tooth does.

Fixed-Dentures

If you are missing all or most of your teeth, you can still benefit from incorporating a few dental implants into your treatment plan. Our office provides fixed hybrid dentures to help patients experience the comfort and confidence of a naturally functioning new smile again. Traditional dentures are removable sets of prosthetic teeth held in place with the daily use of an adhesive. Although functional and highly customizable with today’s technology, this type of appliance can become poorly fitting, slip while eating or speaking and lead to other issues with your dental health. A fixed hybrid denture is held securely in place by several strategically placed dental implants.  This means that your dentures will be anchored by the dental implants, giving you a more secure and comfortable daily fit.

Dental Implant Eligibility

In order to add dental implants to your restorative dentistry treatment plan, Dr. Engelberg must perform a thorough revaluation of your dental structures including your gums and jawbone to ensure everything is strong enough to undergo oral surgery. Dental implants require oral surgery because it is needed to insert the titanium post into your soft tissues so that, as it heals, the post will fuse together with your jawbone. Dr. Engelberg will evaluate the condition of all aspects of your smile and can address any concerns or compromised tissues to enable most patients to be or become successful candidates. Our office can coordinate tooth extractions, sinus lifts, and bone grafting if considered necessary for the long-term stability of your dental implant.
