Is it okay if I don’t go to the dentist?

Your dental health directly impacts your overall health. This is because your mouth is the main entryway for food and water to get into your body. If your mouth is not healthy, this can contribute to certain ailments like heart disease, lung infections, diabetes, and strokes. It’s important to maintain your dental health by visiting your dentist for routine dental cleanings and exams. If dental damages occur, it is even more important to see a dentist promptly as dental concerns often get worse the longer they are left untreated.

Can I bring a friend with me to my dental appointment?

Sure, we invite patients to bring along a guest if needed. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, they may be asked to wait outside of the exam room. However, often patients feel more comfortable knowing that a trusted friend or family member is nearby just in case they need additional support. Our compassionate team of dental professionals is also here to help you throughout your dental appointment. They are happy to answer any questions you have about upcoming procedures or what to expect during your appointment.

The noises at the dentist frighten me. What can be done?

A lot of dental equipment makes strange noises that can be startling to patients. However, rest assured that our office is here to help you, and all of our tools are important in allowing us to do so. To distract yourself from the unfamiliar noises at the dentist office, try bringing along a pair of headphones and listening to your favorite music while sitting in the dental chair. We are not offended if you need to chill out with your music while we clean and examine your teeth. This will help reduce your risk of being frightened by unfamiliar noises.

What treatment options are available to address dental anxiety?

Sedation dentistry options are available to patients who suffer from dental anxiety. Dr. Engelberg helps patients stay calm and comfortable in the dental chair with the help of nitrous oxide. Also known as laughing gas,  nitrous oxide is inhaled through a nose mask while we work on your teeth. The gas will keep you calm while still allowing you to be aware of your surroundings. Many patients fall asleep during their dental procedures using nitrous oxide. As soon as the mask is removed from your nose, the effects will immediately begin to wear off and should be gone within a few minutes.
