Preparing For Your First Dentist Appointment

Dentist Appointment in Arlington Heights, ILMany patients suffer from dental anxiety or fear of the dentist and avoid scheduling dental appointments for themselves because they do not know what to expect during their first appointment. At AHSmiles, your Arlington Heights dentist office, we are here to help you feel calm and comfortable every step of the way. Read below to learn more about what you can expect during your first dentist appointment at our dentist office:

Check-In

When you first visit our practice, there will be a few forms that we will need you to fill out before you can be seen. Not to worry though! These forms are simply there to provide us with the context we need on your dental background and personal goals for treatment planning. Our office has uploaded all of our patient forms directly to our website to make the first appointment an easier experience for the patient. Simply visit our Patient Forms page to view all the necessary documentation we will need from you. You can choose to fill it out from the comfort of your own home, or while you wait in our relaxing, spa-like waiting room. If you have any questions about the paperwork, feel free to call or ask one of our front-desk team members. They will assist you in handling your paperwork and ensure you are good to go before we call you back to be seen.

Dental Cleaning & Exam

Most patients’ first appointments with us include a dental cleaning. One of our dental hygienists will perform a thorough dental cleaning and periodontal disease assessment. They will make notes regarding the current status of your dental health and your previous medical procedures. Feel free to ask our hygienists any questions about improving your at-home oral hygiene routine. All of our team members stay up-to-date on the latest dental recommendations and can offer you advice on your journey toward achieving your dream smile. Once your dental cleaning is complete, Dr. Engelberg will come to see you. He will also evaluate your dental health and will be able to answer your complex questions regarding dental concerns and treatment options. If any concerns are brought up during your appointment, Dr. Engelberg will present you with a treatment plan that best meets your needs.

Checkout

Once your appointment has been concluded, you will be walked back to our front desk area where you will checkout. Remember to bring your preferred payment method and dental insurance cards, just in case you need them. If a follow-up appointment is recommended, we will go ahead and schedule it for you.
